The gut microbiota (also known as gut flora) is a vast community of trillions of microorganisms, bacteria, viruses and fungi, that live inside your gastrointestinal tract (GIT). How fascinating!

Your gut is just like a beautiful delicate garden and if we want optimal health we need to tend to this living eco-system regularly to keep it happy, healthy and in balance. Just like looking after a garden, your gut requires a good foundation for growth and regular weeding, seeding and feeding.

A successful treatment protocol, known as Weed, Seed and Feed is a traditional naturopathic approach used by qualified Naturopaths to restore healthy digestion, rehabilitate the gut microbiota, as well as detoxifying gently and effectively.

Weed

For your body to flourish and thrive we need to weed out inflammatory foods and bacteria that may be disrupting your gut. High-strength anti-microbial herbal medicines are effective at removing harmful bacteria and preventing harmful microbes from adhering to your gut wall. This is also the perfect time to weed out negative thoughts, toxic relationships and explore your current mindset to allow for growth and expansion in your journey.

Seed

What you plant in your garden is very important, but so is the soil, because unless that is healthy, your plants (microbiome) won’t grow! Our focus is now on repairing the leaky gut and we begin to heal and seal the gut wall and replenish the beneficial bacteria with the introduction of probiotics and healing foods. Detoxification begins with a special blend of herbal medicine and antioxidants to support the liver and kidneys and the release of toxins.

Feed

Now we have established the good gut bacteria, the final stage is all about nourishing, feeding and providing a harmonious home for them. Prebiotics, probiotics, antioxidants and vitamins and minerals can support your microbiome, your eliminatory organs and your entire system.

So why detox?

Stress, environmental toxins and the typical Western diet can deplete your gut health and have been linked to the development of chronic disease – hormonal imbalances, digestive disorders, stress-related illnesses, anxiety, depression, fatigue, chronic pain, autoimmune conditions and trouble conceiving. Incorporating these tips to detox your body every day of your life is a very important and exciting step forward for your health.

Here are some signs that you may need a detox:
. Low immunity
. Weight plateau
. Disturbed sleep
. Hormonal Imbalance
. Nausea and bad breath
. Swelling and fluid retention
. Low energy and feeling ‘flat’
. Chronic pain and headaches
. Muscle and joint pain and swelling
. Food intolerances or sensitivities
. Autoimmune / Thyroid conditions
. Prolonged periods of stress and anxiety
. Irritated skin, rashes, eczema or acne
. Fatigue, brain fog and unable to concentrate
. Smoking, alcohol and coffee consumption
. Exposure to pollution, pesticides and chemicals
. Poor digestion, bloating, constipation and diarrhoea
. Diets high in saturated fats, refined carbohydrates, processed and packaged foods

When we detox the body, not only are we supporting the natural detoxification pathways, we are also improving the function of our digestive system, reducing inflammation and alleviating chronic pain, restoring hormone balance (your liver is responsible for detoxifying your hormones) and even supporting your mental health naturally.
